It always seems like I am always busy defending the Rays. Interesting how Joe Maddon is signed to a two year contract concluding this season. Is he just there to develop the kids until next year when the Rays ownership takes out their checkbook?
do you really see Barry Zito signing on to become part of the Devil Rays who are a work in progress? It remains to be seen once the franchise is further along in there plan, what free agents this franchise will attract. But, in year one the wonder twins did a good job in collecting talent for players that they were not going to keep around. In doing so, contracts like Toby Hall’s and Aubrey Huff’s and several others came off the books and reducing the payroll to a figure we see today. So, I have no problem with how the Rays have spent this offseason. Give this group a chance for their plan to get further along.
I travel up the interstate where I check in on the Florida Gator Baseball team for 2007:
Gone from the 2006 team are the following former Florida Gators who signed with a MLB team :
Closer Darren O’Day (a fifth year senior) who wasn’t selected in the 2005 draft became a free agent the day the Gators season ended and signed with the Angels instead of re-entering for the draft.
2B/SS Adam Davis was the first Florida Gator to hear his name called in the 2006 draft in the third round by the Cleveland Indians
C Brian Jeroloman was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth round.
OF Gavin Dickey the former Gator QB was drafted in 1th round by Seattle.
3B David Cash who is the son of former major leaguer Dave Cash was selected in 40th round by Baltimore.
