The MLB Blog Poll votes on the MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of Year candidates in each league throughout the regular baseball season. In doing so, you get a cumulative snapshot of the award winners, instead of the single end of the year vote. The Blog Poll voters are shown at the end of this post. Prospects such as Evan Longoria were not eligible this week to collect points. As, he is collecting statistics in the minor leagues. The Blog Poll Voters is a group of some of the best writers the baseball blogosphere. In the first installment, we vote for the American League. So the the ROTY graph, Nick Blackburn is listed twice. Did his vote get split accidentally? Would the combination be enough to move him up to 3rd?
Good find. If you see any others lets me know. The software seemed to be case sensitive.
I’m curious how A-Rod got so many votes. The number of votes Verlander got for Cy Young was also quite surprising. Is this like the BCS where the projected winner in the pre-season gets an advantage? I’m curious how others are doing this. I’m voting as if every player starts out with a clean slate. I only considered the first week of play and disregarded past performance and future expectation.

Lee, I actually am going by who I think will win. I still think that Verlander is my favorite for AL Cy Young winner. I commented that I know it doesn’t look smart after 1 week, but I’m confident he and the Tigers will be fine. In part, that is because I believe that Miguel Cabrera will be the AL MVP (despite the 2-18 start).
Lee, I’m voting the same way you are, by their performance so far.

I think you all need to get on the same page and decide if this is a prediction poll or an actual performance poll. Can’t have 1/2 the field doing one thing and the other 1/2 doing something different.
Is it meant to be a weekly award or who is your front-runner for the year-end award at this point in time?
It is meant to be a poll based on player production. I think because of one week of data only, people had a hard time deciding how to vote. But, it is based on opinion. So, if we wanted to be like BCS we could add a forumula. But, that is not the intent here.
The way I vote, I ask, “If the season ended TODAY, who would I vote for each award?”
I was under the impression that this was a prediction poll. That’s because I didn’t read carefully. I’ll vote correctly next week.
Same here…I was making a prediction vote but the vote this week will be in line with others.
I still hate Miami though
Sorry about missing Week One for the AL. Shit was happening everywhere - literally.

As an Australia-based Tigers fan, I found your blog on google and read a few of your other Tigers posts.
I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
Very nice Tigers information. I think Verlander may become one of the best pitchers in baseball.
I hope to be in Motown for a game this spring.
